Valencia, 19 April of 2018.-The Marina in Valencia, located in the port area of the city, has become Center demonstrator of the possibilities offered by the Internet of things and intelligent devices connected through the cloud, in response to the increased demand and use of these technologies. The goal is to validate its operation and to attract citizens and tourists with an attractive and useful claim, within the framework of the "intelligent tourism", defined as the one at their destinations has a technological infrastructure based on information and communication technologies.

The prototype has been developed within the initiative of R & D NODOS-TURISMO (New objects for connected and sustainable cities: research and development of a prototype of intelligent urban object oriented tourism, and it is funded by the Valencian Institute of business competitiveness (IVACE), co-funded by the operational programme FEDER in the Valencian Community 2014-2020 and coordinated by the metalworking technology Institute, Furniture, Wood, Packaging and Allied (AIDIMME).

With the participation of the Institute of technology ceramic (ITC-AICE), the cooperation of companies from various sectors (urban furniture, wood, ceramic, building with wood and home automation/sensor technology) and collaboration of external specialists Kiyanshid Hedjri and Antoni Castells Sanabra.

Intelligent prototype

The prototype, made with sustainable materials such as ceramics and wood, It is configured as a stand-alone solar Bank that allows you to connect to the Internet by Wi-Fi, charging by induction mobile electronic devices and access through a vandal resistant touch screen to apps of interest to tourists and citizens. It includes intelligent LED lighting and a solar panel that generates energy to feed all of its electronic components.

Ceramic Grespania has been developed with photocatalytic properties, self-cleaning and antipollution, It breaks down toxic gases such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), way less harmful to health, and the wood is treated with special varnish for durability in aggressive external conditions, as well as its resistance to scratching and ultraviolet radiation.

Environmental factors have been key in the design and development, integrating ecodesign, the renewable wood and ceramics materials, as well as solar power as a source of power of the electronic components of the prototype.

One of the four macro-trends technological and social detected by AIDIMME and ITC-AICE project has been the sustainability, that includes energy efficiency, intelligent lighting, the use of natural resources, and the generation of electricity, among others. The design of the prototype also responds to the ergonomics and the need to create shadow Mediterranean tourist areas.

To define the characteristics that must comply with the prototype has counted with the collaboration of the city of Castellón, Marina D´Or, Casual hotels, Hotel Voramar and INVAT entities. TUR (Instituto Valenciano de tourist technologies), the VLC tourism Foundation, InnDEA Valencia Foundation, the Hotel Technology Institute and the Valencian Tourism Agency.

The overall objective of NODOS-TURISMO consists of the research and development of a prototype of urban tourism-oriented object, can be integrated into smart cities own communications platforms or Smart Cities, smart materials derived from wood and ceramics are used in which. Some examples of urban objects are the furniture, transport stops, lighting, signals, information panels, sources, pergolas, public toilets, small pavilions, decorative structures, barriers and bollards, kiosks and exoskeletons of buildings, among others.

NODOS-TURISMO arises as an opportunity for companies in the industries access to the smart cities emerging market share and ceramic, It will be a market of high added value in the coming years. It is also proposed to improve the quality of tourist services, especially important for the economy.

The prototype developed in the r & d NODOS-TURISMO project is funded by the IVACE and the operational ERDF Programme, and coordinated by AIDIMME.

The Marina of Valencia Living Lab

One of the reasons for testing the prototype in an open environment is to publicly show the possibilities for intelligent tourism. Intelligent tourism is an emerging market that will greatly increase in the coming years and that is related to the intelligent cities.

Information and communication technologies used in the prototype and, in general, in the Smart Cities, can be used for the sustainable management of tourism destinations, It is often difficult for the intrinsically seasonal nature of tourism, that impact strongly on the population and services (catering, etc.), many times unpredictable way today.

The Marina of Valencia Living Lab is an open experimental ecosystem, based on the processes of collective creation to design a public space inclusive and innovative that promotes the exchange of ideas and processes and participation of users and groups from all sectors and ages, and therefore, a real test bench that allows you to discover the emerging applications posed by the market and users.
